Here are some tips that can make your home or business more energy efficient:
- Turn off lights when leaving a room. We know lights are needed throughout the day at your business, but when leaving for the day turning off the lights that are not needed will be of great savings to you.
- Provide task lighting over desks, tool benches, etc. This may help you to still work effectively without illuminating entire rooms.
- By placing lamps in corners of rooms, this helps the light to reflect from two wall surfaces instead of one.
- Use dimmable bulbs when possible.
- Clean your light fixtures on a regular basis.
- If your lights are on for more than two hours a day, consider using compact fluorescent bulbs. Compact fluorescent bulbs use up to 75 percent less electricity and will give a warm and soft light. If you are looking for a bulb that will last longer, these last about 10 times longer. Typically, a 90 or 100-watt incandescent bulb can be replaced with 23-watt compact fluorescent bulb.
- Install photoelectric controls or timers to make sure that outdoor lighting is turned off during the day or when it's not being used.
